Semi Permenant Make Up Treatment AfterCare

Information for the healing period

Much time and care is taken in preparation for each procedure ensuring the treatment area is clean and disinfected and all equipment is clean and sterile. A full briefing will be given to each client during the consultation on aftercare. A step by step printed instruction leaflet will also be handed out for all client's to take home with them.

Below I have given a few brief pointers to remember during the healing period.

What should i remember to do during the healing process?

  • Always avoid unnecessary touching, scratching or picking of the treated area
  • Always wash and dry you hands before and after handling the treated area
  • If possible always shower rather than bath while your treated area is still healing and avoid lengthly soaking of the face.
  • Do not use any type of skin products, creams or washes on the area whilst it is still healing. Avoid any petroleum based creams as this could affect the colour of the pigment. The only creams used should be the ones recommended or given to you by your practitioner.
  • Healing cream should be applied gently 2-3 times a day. This is to prevent drying out and cracking of the skin.
  • Swimming, sunbeds and and sun bathing should be avoided until the you is fully healed. This should take no longer than two weeks.
  • After approximately two weeks all dryness should have gone and should be replaced with fresh skin. The healing process normally takes between 10-14 days.
  • Any after effects, if any should be minimal. If slight swelling occurs this will subside quickly.

Three basic steps to remember for 7 days after your treatment:

  • Apply Bepanthen or cream given by your practitioner to the area at least 3 times a day using a cotton bud.
  • Wash hands before and after application and use a clean cotton bud each time.
  • Wash the area twice daily with warm water and remember to pat dry with a clean towel, avoid any other products on your face.

If the area does get wet, pat dry gently with a clean towel or tissue. If you have ever had cold sores or herpes simplex in the past it is important that you continue to use medication for 7 days after your lip treatment, as you did 7 days before. This will help prevent an outbreak, which causes discomfort and could result in scarring.

Essential Information

Once you have had you procedure you may notice the colour is a lot darked than expected but please don't panic. The area will seem darker initially and during the healing process but once the area has fully healed it will appear up to two shades lighter. Under no circumstances should a second procedure be performed until a minimum of 4 weeks after the first appointment.

General Post Procedure Information

In order to keep your semi permanent make-up in tip-top condition it may be necessary to have a maintenance procedure about every 12 to 18 months, though this will vary for each individual. To avoid your semi permanent make up fading try to avoid excessive exposure to the sun or UV rays, you can do this by wearing a good sun cream or moisturiser with a minimum of SPF15. If you are planning an MRI scan, chemical peel or any other similar procedures, please inform your practitioner that you have had semi permanent make-up. You will not be able to give blood for a minimum of six month's after having the procedure. If you are planning injections such as Botox and Collagen then please consider the affect's of this as it can change the shape of your lips and eyebrows. Laser hair removal can fade and change the shade of your lips or brow's, always advise the laser technician you are wearing permanent cosmetics and they can act accordingly.

Eyeliner

Not all client's experience swelling but if slight swelling does occur to minimize this you can place ice on the treated area every hour or so for about 10 minutes. Make sure you are rolling the ice, do not leave in one area for any length of time. Do not use eyelash curlers until the area has fully healed. New mascara has to be purchased but not to be used until approximately 5 days after the procedure.

Eyebrows

Your eyebrows need to be gently blotted clean and patted dry with a clean towel before applying cream to stop them from drying out. Make sure you wash your hair with your head tilted backwards to stop water running down you face. The area needs to be clear for the healing to take place so if you have a fringe it is advised you keep it off your forehead and eyebrows and do not wear anything on your head that is going to come into contact with the treated area.

Lips

The anaesthetic will have worn off within half an hour and your colour will come back into your lip's at this point. Ice can be applied the same as the eyeliner if you experience a slight burning sensation. Do not hold ice on the area, use the same method as with the eye liner. After 2 hours and before you go to bed gently blot the area with a damp cotton wool pad, pat dry and apply healing balm to stop the lips from drying out . Apply the healing balm every hour whilst awake. Do not apply lipstick or lip gloss of any kind until the area is fully healed. It is possible that an allergic reaction to the ingredients of the lip products may occur should you use them within this period. Try to avoid any kind of spicy or salty food while your lips are healing. Also try and drink through a straw while you are healing, this will stop your healing balm from being washed off. Always take care when brushing your teeth. If you suffer from cold sores you will need to take a one weeks course of Zovirax before your treatment (even if you don't currently have a cold sore). This will prevent any outbreak from occurring during the healing process. If this is not done then I can not be held responsible for the outcome of your semi permanent make-up should you have an outbreak after the procedure.
